Legs: 6 (hind legs adapted for jumping)
Antennae: Yes (short, recessed)

Habitat:
Cat fleas live on pets such as cats and dogs and in carpets, bedding, and upholstered furniture. Eggs and larvae develop in indoor environments where pets rest. They thrive in warm, humid conditions common in Virginia homes.

Threats & Dangers:
They cause intense itching, skin irritation, and allergic reactions in pets and humans. Fleas can transmit tapeworms and bacterial diseases. Heavy infestations can lead to anemia in young or small animals.

Control Measures:
Effective control requires treating both the pet and the home environment. Professional indoor treatments combined with veterinarian-approved pet products eliminate all life stages. Ongoing prevention is essential.
