Rock Pigeon
(Columba livia)
Size: 11–14 inches
Characteristics: Gray body, iridescent neck, strong flocking behavior
Habitat:
Pigeons roost and nest on ledges, rooftops, bridges, and commercial structures. They prefer flat surfaces with overhead cover. Often remain in the same location year-round.
Threats & Dangers:
Droppings carry bacteria and damage roofing, signage, and masonry. Nesting blocks drains and creates fire hazards. Large flocks increase sanitation and slip-and-fall risks.
Control Measures:
Professional deterrents such as spikes, netting, and exclusion systems are most effective. Cleaning and sanitation reduce attraction. Humane control prevents long-term roosting.
